Jazz Workshop (Weekly Class)

with Rick Atkins

Wednesdays | 2pm-4pm during term time

This weekly workshop will cover learning a tune and improvising around it, as well as analysis of the chords and scales.

Bring along your own instrument and music stand and you'll have a chance to study the following musical types - New Orleans jazz, Swing, Bepop, Blues, Latin.

The class is led by volunteer Rick Atkins. Rick is a jazz enthusiast wants to share his love of the genre with others. Rick plays guitar in the Sound Force Big Band.

    Intermediate Guitar (Weekly Class)

    Thursdays | 7pm-9.30pm during term time A weekly workshop for intermediate level players of acoustic and electric guitar. Please phone or come in person to discuss sign-ups. The sessions are split into two halves, one where we are joined by a vocalist and we gain experience in the performance side and the other half where we work through songs to establish arrangements. This class is aimed at those who wish to extend their guitar knowledge & playing ability to progress and experience playing with others at a similar level. Students will need reasonable chord vocabulary (open & barre chords) and fluidity with chord changes to play complete songs.

    Recorder Group (Weekly Class)

    Mondays | 10am-12.30pm during term time An untutored weekly workshop for recorder players keen to perform as part of a group. The recorder is wonderfully fun to play, and this class aims to revive our enjoyment of an easy yet undervalued instrument. Even if you haven’t picked one up for years, come along and enjoy rediscovering your skills in this untutored group.

    Guitar Club (Weekly Class)

    Wednesdays | 7pm-9pm during term time Guitar Club caters for those wishing to improve their acoustic guitar skills with fellow players in an informal, supportive environment. Taking a song-based approach to workshops, the club aims to practice and refine each number to performance standard, encouraging all to participate and develop their skills.
