Madhubani (Forest of Honey) Painting (one-day course)
with Shashirekha Prakash
Tuesday 17 February | 1.30 - 4pm
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
India has many traditional, folk and village/tribal art forms. Madhubani art is a style practiced in the Mithila region and dates back thousands of years to the wedding of Rama and Sita - a story from one of the great Indian epics, Ramayana. This art form was traditionally taught and learned by women, with skills passed from mothers to daughters.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Shashirekha is a self taught artist, having learned many traditional and folk arts. She creates paintings for a wide audience as gifts or commissions, and has even produced art to support fundraisers at local events and schools. She has taught Madhubani painting to children, in schools and to groups of women of a variety of different age groups.
