ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Create your own original artwork by combining fabric and ink. You’ll start by choosing from a beautiful selection of fabric scraps to inspire your piece, then dive into experimenting with vibrant inks. Working on paper, you’ll incorporate fabric to create an imaginative artwork inspired by texture, colour, and pattern.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Anastasia is a third-generation multimedia artist and teaches from a belief that art is a journey not a formula.

WHAT TO BRING

Materials will be provided, but if you have any particular inks or papers you would like to experiment with please bring them along. Bring inspiration too to guide your work.

    Tanjore Art Painting (full-day course)

    Thursday 28 May | 10am - 4pm ABOUT THE WORKSHOP Learn how to make Tanjore painting, a 450 years old traditional Indian art form from the southern part of India. It traditionally involves using 24 karat gold & semi precious gems to decorate embossed “ muck” paste made from Arabic gum & French chalk powder. This artform has traditionally been used to decorate temples, palaces and depicts images from sacred texts. In this workshop, participants will learn about Tanjore painting and recreate the effect using inks and acrylic paints while creating their own composition based on. Once it is dry, adding gold & then painting the figures. ABOUT THE TUTOR Shashirekha is a self taught artist, having learned many traditional and folk arts. She creates paintings for a wide audience as gifts or commissions, and has even produced art to support fundraisers at local events and schools. She is very passionate about this ancient art form as her ancestors belong to the region that it comes from, known as Thanjavur. WHAT TO BRING There are some supplies at QPAC and paints/inks will be provided. It is recommended you bring a 000 size round brush or drawing ink nib as well as a few brushes, a pencil, ruler and eraser and scissors. Many of these materials can be purchased from the Centre's Art Shop (see reception for details). Similar tools can be borrowed from the Centre on the day, however specificity and condition cannot be guaranteed.

    Still Life in Acrylics (one-day course)

    Saturday 6 June 10am - 4pm ABOUT THE WORKSHOP In this fun and relaxed class, we'll explore the joy of painting a small still life composition using vibrant Acrylics and a variety of creative techniques. Starting with an underpainting, you'll learn how to build a strong foundation full of energy and personality. We'll dive into negative painting to shape your subject with bold unexpected layers and finish with luminous glazes to add depth and richness. Whether you're new to Acrylics or looking to expand your techniques, this session is all about experimenting, layering and letting go of perfection! ABOUT THE TUTOR Colin is a local artist specialising in watercolours, exhibiting his work his work in different galleries around the UK. MATERIALS NEEDED Essential materials: An 8" x 10" (20 x 25 cm) stretched canvas or canvas board Good (artist or student) quality acrylic paints in the following colours: Cadmium Yellow (light or med), Cadmium Orange, Permanent Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Umber, Turquoise Pthalo, Hansa Yellow. Brushes: #10 Flat and #4 Round A Palette Knife and a stay wet palette or a shallow plastic container with an air tight lid (eg. tupperware) to use as a palette. Many of these materials (paints included) can be purchased from the Centre's Art Shop (see reception for details). Similar tools (paints not included) can be borrowed from the Centre on the day, however specificity and condition cannot be guaranteed.     Advanced Still Life Oil Painting

    ABOUT THE WORKSHOP This advanced still life oil painting workshop is designed for artists looking to refine their technical skills and deepen their understanding of composition, light, and form. Working from a carefully arranged still life setup, you will focus on colour harmony, tonal control, edges, and creating convincing texture and depth. Emphasis will be placed on observation, subtle colour mixing, and developing a strong sense of atmosphere. Individual guidance and group discussion will help you push your work further and resolve paintings with confidence. Ideal for experienced painters seeking to strengthen their practice. ABOUT THE TUTOR Lizzy Freemantle is predominantly a figurative oil painter known for her narrative layered work that explores connections and patterns through time. Her work explores many classical themes and ideas from early iconography and influences throughout art history, reworking ideas from the Renaissance all the way to the postmodern period. She studied atelier training with Sadie Valeri and has attended many workshops with many world renowned artists. She has a BA in Art History. She has shown in prestigious exhibitions in London such as the ING Discerning eye, Green & Stone Summer exhibition and in and around Oxford and Buckinghamshire. WHAT TO BRING All materials are provided and are included in the workshop fee but you are welcme to bring your own oil painting materials if you wish. There will be a break for lunch in the middle of the session. Snacks and drinks are available from the QPAC Coffee Bar but you may want to bring your own packed lunch.
