Raku - Making and Firing (two-session course)
with Helen Neighbour and Charlie Butters
Saturday 25 April (Handbuilding) | 10am - 1pm
Saturday 6 June (Firing) | 10am - 4pm
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Learn how to Raku fire pottery by experiencing the whole process, from making to firing! In the first part of this course, participants will create pieces using Raku clay, learning techniques and tips for making sure their creations will survive the firing. In the second part of the course, the pieces will be ready to Raku, having been bisque fired at the Centre. You will learn how to achieve different Raku effects, from applying glaze, burning hair and feathers onto your pieces once hot or using different flammable materials to create smoke effects.
WHAT TO BRING
Materials and Equipment will be provided. Come with an idea of what you might like to make for Raku firing. When you come to the first session the tutor will explain the whole Raku process and suggest what you may want to bring with you on the firing day. If you have images or examples of raku effects that you like, bring them along to that first session to discuss your options with the tutor.
