Bookbinding for Beginners (4 week course)
with Alessia Tumbiolo
Starting Saturday 13 June | 10am - 12.30pm
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This is a 4 week course starting Saturday 13 June. (COURSE DATES: 13, 20, 27 June, 4 July)
This four-lesson course is a hands-on introduction to bookbinding, designed to get participants working with different binding structures while exploring a range of materials, tools, and techniques. Participants will build practical skills through making, gain confidence using traditional tools, and develop a foundation that encourages further discovery of bookbinding.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Alessia is an Italian bookbinder who fell in love with the craft at a young age, inspired by her father, himself a bookbinder in Sicily, who shared stories of his work and traditions. She formally studied bookbinding in high school and has continued to refine her skills through years of practice, curiosity, and lifelong learning.
After travelling widely, Alessia settled in the UK, where she established her own bookbinding business and began her teaching career. She now teaches in London at CityLit and offers private tuition, while continuing to study with talented bookbinders across the UK and around the world. Her work focuses on exploring raw materials and traditional techniques to create bespoke keepsakes and unique, functional pieces designed to be held, used and treasured.
WHAT TO BRING
All materials and equipment will be provided, though you may want to bring an apron as you will be working with glue during the workshops.
