Introduction to Screen Writing (half-day workshop)
with Colin Metcalfe
Monday 26 October | 10am - 12.30pm
In celebration of the National Year of Reading!
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This workshop is an opportunity to understand what knowledge is required to produce a screenplay, starting with basic script formatting rules. It will introduce storytelling structure, and what info an audience needs before the plot can begin. Colin will cover a variety of topics such as; How to launch the plot(s) and developing it to create challenges for characters to overcome, making characters interesting using different types of conflict personality traits, creating the right kind of drama/comedy, producing multi-purpose scenes that ensure that every second of screen time is completely taken advantage of, building the story up to a crescendo and of course tying up all of the main characters’ story arcs and delivering that satisfying ending!
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Colin spent most of his working life studying and producing in the educational sector, designing training courses, and often using stories to deliver learning objectives. Success in this field soon saw him recognised in drama writing circles when one of his short film scripts was selected for the Film Council digi-shorts award. The produced film went on to win several awards and was shown at festivals throughout the world. Since 2024 Colin has been teaching screenwriting at the prestigious Pinewood Studios.
