Mindful Colouring and Drawing
with Deborah Moreno
Thursday 29 October | 1.30pm - 4pm
£18 std | £16 member
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
It is scientifically proven that 20 minutes of colouring lowers stress cortisol levels. Drawing reduces anxiety scores and enhances visual attention which leads to cognitive benefits including creative thinking.
During this mindful and relaxing workshop, Deborah will guide participants through her seismograph drawing technique to create a form within which they can colour and create patterns. No previous skill or experience is required! Deborah will also have positive affirmation colouring sheets and representational colouring sheets avaliable for participants to use should they wish to.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Deborah has participated in exhibitions and film events nationwide, with poetry books included in private collections. Throughout both her Degree and Master of Fine Art, for which she was awarded a full scholarship, she explored the complexities of the human condition, focusing particularly on the nuanced communication challenges associated with Multiple Sclerosis—a condition Deborah experiences firsthand.
Deborah developed an innovative drawing technique that employs her body as a seismograph, recording subtle biorhythms such as coughing, sneezing, fidgeting, sighing, yawning, and twitching. This method produces unique line drawings whose abstract forms encourage introspection during the colouring process, actively promoting relaxation of the autonomic nervous system.
Deborah is also a fully trained psychotherapist and uses this technique as creative therapy in private sessions and workshops for children and adults, one of which ran at the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic in Edinburgh with Patients of MS.
WHAT TO BRING
All materials are included in the workshop, so participants need only bring themselves and a desire to create in a relaxed, introspective environment. Those who wish to bring their own drawing tools are very welcome to.
