Introduction to Kintsugi

with Helen Neighbour

Thursday 29 October | 10am - 4pm

£50 std | £45 members

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Kintsugi is the ancient Japanese art of repairing broken objects with gold. Behind this philosophical repair technique is the belief not to hide the damage that life may bring, or to discard something that is broken. Instead it is important to embrace, highlight and show the process of healing, mending or bringing elements together to become a new and more honest form, embracing the scars, reflecting the history, and honoring the item's flaws, making it unique and more precious and therefore considered more beautiful.

This workshop will give you the opportunity to learn the various terminology and meanings of the different techniques, before having the chance to practice using a couple of different methods.

Please note - during the workshop, participants will not be using traditional materials, instead we will be using an epoxy glue and have a choice of colored gold or silver to create this method.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Helen is one of QPAC's weekly pottery tutors and a keen ceramicist. She has explored a large range of ceramics techniques and is passionate about sharing that knowledge with others.

WHAT TO BRING

You will be provided with an item to work on as part of the day's workshop, but do bring any broken ceramic items if you are happy to have a go at repairing them. They do need to be complete items with all of the pieces.

* Please do not bring an item of real value, as mistakes are likely to occur.

You may wish to bring a packed lunch with you, although there will be refreshments available in the café and there will be time to nip into town to get something if needed.
