ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Jeremy will introduce you to woodcarving with a taster project that will enable you to carve a relief, or a dish. The tutor will supply the tools, demonstrate techniques, and demonstrate how to keep your tools razor sharp. To inspire you Jeremy will show his collection of carved objects and provide interesting books and magazines. You may complete your piece by applying tung oil for a natural finish or paint it with watercolour.
With this experience you can take these first steps further to develop your own projects and even join the Monday Woodcarvers!
ABOUT THE TUTOR
"Following my sculpture degree in 1970 I went off track for some years learning about building and carpentry, became a woodwork teacher in 1977, then started carving seriously in 1985. Wood as a material, the tools to cut and shape it, the smell of it, having to work slowly and deliberately, then adding colour to the play of light and shadow - all this centres me and grounds me in this physical world. While I love making functional bowls and dishes I use relief carving in wood as the language and medium to reflect and comment on the things that we celebrate and the issues we worry about today. My imagery comes from the things around us and from the natural forms of plants and wildlife."

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Warli is a tribal art practiced in the western part of India. It involves decorating outside walls of houses with either sot or cinder, using natural calcium powder to paint in white and then drawing with the black powders. This is sometimes also done over a layer of red mud. The paintings traditionally depict rituals, ceremonies and sometimes daily life. Using mostly triangles for the base shapes, the walls are then adorned with animals, birds, trees, water and even underground environments.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Shashirekha loves all kinds of tribal, traditional or village arts from India. She has been painting for over 20 years and has learnt through self-teaching and discussion with other artists.

We reccommend you bring size 0 and size 4 brushes plus some paints in crimson, white and black, plus some paper or canvas board and a pencil.

Shashirekha loves all kinds of tribal, traditional or village arts from India. She has been painting for over 20 years and has learnt through self-teaching and discussion with other artists.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
This practical course introduces a range of approaches to expand your understanding of landscape painting. Making a series of studies using a variety of drawing and painting approaches, you will respond to the theme of landscape and a sense of place. You will work directly on location in central Aylesbury in the morning and in the Queen's Park Art Centre studio in the afternoon to become more confident in making choices for developing your own artworks.
Using different painting and drawing mediums you will explore the landscape elements of light, space and mass. Making observed studies directly in the urban environment, and taking inspiration from your own painted studies and photographs, you will be supported to develop your own painted compositions. The work of relevant historical and contemporary artists working across urban and rural sites will introduce potential approaches to use within your own landscape painting.
ABOUT THE TUTOR
This workshop is led by artist Joseph Schneider whose 30 years of making and teaching with all ages gives him a passion for supporting everyone to believe in their artistic potential. He loves to share his excitement and knowledge about artists’ past and present and is skilled at making the most complex ideas accessible.
